St. Martin Lodge features classic bunk-style accommodation in shared rooms for up to 30 people. It’s the perfect way to experience the island’s heritage. The Lodge is owned and managed by the QIKT Community. Our aim is to provide DOC-style lodge accommodation for group and family hire and be a centre for hui, retreats, conferences, camps and other gatherings in accordance with our values and vision.
House Rules:
Smoking including vaping is allowed on the far end of the jetty only.
No fires or BBQ’s permitted.
No dogs permitted.
Please leave the accommodation cleaner than you found it.
Facilities:
Kitchen/dining room: x2 stoves, microwave, cooking utensils, jugs, toasters, pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs/cups, glasses and cutlery, x2 fridge/freezers. Dining room with tables/chairs and a heat pump. Our tank water is UV treated and safe to drink. Please conserve water as much as possible. In very dry weather, you may be asked to bring your own drinking water.
Waste: We compost food waste. Please put any food waste in the white bucket labelled “compost” in the Lodge Kitchen. Please take all your recycling and rubbish off the island when you leave.
Lounge: Heat pump, sofa’s, armchairs, games, bookcase, coffee table.
Bathroom: x2 hand basins; x1 shower for occasional use. Please conserve water as much as possible. If using the shower, please keep it short (2 minutes).
Toilets: x2 composting toilets (shared with day visitors). They can only cope with pee, poo and toilet paper. There is a separate rubbish bin for sanitary products. Always close the toilet lid after use so warm air can circulate and help with the composting process. This prevents them from getting smelly too. Useful bacteria break down the waste and it’s critical that no harsh chemical products are used to clean the toilets. These will kill the beneficial bugs. The Keeper will clean the toilet, using appropriate cleaning products.
Bunk Rooms: x2 large rooms sleeping 14 and 11; x1 single room; x1 room with two single beds (Captain’s cabin); x1 room with double bed.
What we supply: Toilet paper, hand wash liquid, dish-washing liquid, cleaning products, brooms, vacuum, dustpan/brush, mop.
If the Lodge isn’t quite big enough for your group there is a small, flat area for camping near the buildings. No camping elsewhere on the Island. Please note: the maximum number is 30 in the Lodge, including one or two tents.

On the last Saturday of each month, we have a Welcome Day. We organise boat transport and you can stay until the afternoon or overnight. 100% of our day visitor donations goes a long way to maintaining and restoring this sanctuary in the middle of Otago Harbour. You can purchase more than one ticket for multiple people in your group. This payment INCLUDES the return boat fare and the Island Day Visit Payment.
The boat pick up is at 9.30am (Spring/Summer) or 10am (Autumn/Winter) from Back Beach Port Chalmers (or Portobello pontoon by arrangement) returning at about 3.30pm. Please use the single parks on the road outside of the Back Beach Yacht Club carpark if coming for the day or overnight. A pick-up on the Portobello side is usually possible by prior arrangement. Please indicate if you’d like a Portobello pickup on your registration form.
The Married Quarters can hold up to 100 people. We have chairs for 30 people (included in the booking). This booking is for groups who would like sole use of the Married Quarters for more than a 6 hour period.
A $50 / 24 hour period deposit will apply to all bookings. This deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your booking giving less than a month’s notice, unless you transfer the booking to a different date.
